Catholic Self Defense

Catholic Self Defense Note: I wrote this essay on the development of Tekkenryu Jujutsu. However, I think that applies to all methods of self defense. It may also explain why martial arts are the way are.Catholic, by definition, means universal or "big ideas". I've got a lot of manuals, software, films and materials relating to research covering a wide range of unarmed combat. Some methods of struggle in defense of their base, others use boxing or SAVATE. Some Jujutsu and judo while others call their "rough and fall" or "all", and there is also a system based on American Sport. I have an old manual YOGA for self defense. The material ranges from current to old, some very different systems old. These all! Finding kicked and methods determined by each method and "nationality", which deals with methods to combat Judo, Sambo Wrestling All-In. These range from the foot to the ground, all the aspects, all the guys in our methods. The crew have been trained in an impressive number of systems and methods. They have a fantastic pool of knowledge, skill and training to get from.OKAY, so what? See if that makes sense ............ Damian, Clint, and I worked on a program of instruction. It is based on a catholic approach to combatives. We noticed a number of methods from various sources and training. The problem, as we have seen was in the progression of instruction. Here's how we tried to solve this fundamental problem: Very few people will start the "martial arts" instruction or training and stay with him for any period of time. Many combative skills are just that, skills! Ask her time and training to inculcate to the extent that it is "useful" in a real fight, or even in a controlled "free sparring" environment.Japanese judoka have a saying - "A Newaza years Tachiwaza for ten years. In other words, the domain of work can be acquired within a year, with techniques require ten. So, here we see a recognition that "several" require different amounts of time, training and DEDICATION.So that was our problem. Most people simply do not invest the time and effort to "master" Many of the techniques applied. Most people "train" for a limited period of time and then move to the next "thing" that catches their interest. What is our responsibility as "masters"? What we did was to establish a program that takes into account. The curriculum for the first three to six months, does not contain any element, but the most basic, easy to understand and simple methods for effective protection. Someone can train for a limited period of time and get something useful in terms of qualification. " What was our basis for the selection of "method" Hence the reason for a simple type of instruction with a strong emphasis on the few basic methods that can be easily and instinctively used in combat after practice? .. Base selection theory of what man can do the smallest to largest. "I'm quoting Applegate from the 1943 edition to kill or die (no, I hope, portray me as a fan). Continued training and "dedication" will result in leaing becoming more "complex" skills. However, if an individual ceases practice after a "limited" amount of time, we believe that we have at least a little 'value in terms of highly qualified personnel is a Grappler survival.Damian everywhere, ie, fighting, judo, and presentation. Clint is a walking encyclopedia of "waza" Ralph is amazing in his knowledge of combat and weapons. Each of these men could teach to a high level of competence and complexity without any problems. However, they are fully aware that it must "walk before you run." Therefore, they are strong advocates of BASICS. First! judokas (like any other combative athletes) have a term called "Tokuiwaza" or "for" art. This is a method that has worked on incessantly, continually for years in search of "perfection". Whether it be "Judo" Kimura, Gerry Cooney, "starter" Lewis, or Georges Carpentier, this approach is valid. So, realistically, this applies to most people? NO. That's why "champions" are revered. They EXCEPTIONS.Why anyone "teach" a businessman or a middle-aged small petite housewife a technique or method that requires a combination of knowledge and developed over the years for an "adjustment" of physics to be complete effective, even a little '? Well, no, at least not initially. How to build a house, start with a solid foundation and then build from there. Therefore, the simplest approach when it comes to personal protection is to start with techniques based on what the "smallest can be done to the highest." E 'a guarantee of success? No, this is not how life. And 'This is a logical place to start? I think so.Damian, Clint or I could teach tens of chokeholds and strangleholds. Ralph could teach dozens of complex exercises and working methods of stick and knife. Dozens! What! Without the time, training and dedication to master the techniques that are worse than useless. The same is true for each "class" of techniques. Training and skills development is what makes anything "work". For all of us is that for the simple common sense basic approach. Start with the simplest methods of creating and there. It has nothing to do with "blind faith in a way or a man. It has nothing to do with a "fanatic." It has nothing to do with the root of every "Gospel" throughout ignorance. It has to do with a sincere dedication to the quest for a better, more rational and logical "solutions" to the multitude of complex problems inherent to real world is why survival. This ongoing research is devoted to critical. Some question the "validity" of certain methods. Do not assume that these "problems" have not been asked by others, and has responded. Only a fool would blindly follow any "doctrine" without questioning the information and validation of a skilled Grappler presented. Can apply his craft? Of course. Could a skilled boxer or Muay Thai fighter ply their trade successfully? Of course. This is not the problem. The question is: 'What can I do? "What can be done in twenty is different from what can be done in fifty. What can be done after several years of training is different from what can be done after several months of training. What to do against an opponent of equal strength and weight is different from what we can do against a much bigger, stronger opponent, or even much smaller, lighter one.So what is the point of all this ? Simple. Knowing who you are. That is capable of doing. What are your skills. Their strengths, their weaknesses, their goals. Take a hard long realistic appraisal and find the answer to this question. And after there.Copyright 2003?
